King Lear's Reflection  Of ACT 1 SCENE 2 and 3    Edmund supposedly receives a letter from Edgar. When Gloucester,the father, asked for the letter, Edmund is hestitant to give it to him. Not only because of what is in the letter, but to lure the father in part of his plan. Gloucester tells Edmund to find Edgar and change his thinking of killing him, which is not true. The two talk about astrology and it leads to their father. Edmund explaining to Edgar not to talk to their father because it will lead to more and more anger. Also stating Edgar should be armed and lay low just in case someone tries wto harm him. But Edmund is saying all this to Gloucester and Edgar for the plan to work. SCENE 3    Goneril, oldest daughter of Lear, asks Oswald, the steward, if her dad had hit on one of her attendants for warning his fool in a disrespectful way. Oswald says yes. Goneril replies back by saying she is annoyed by Lear's actions and how he critcizes on every detail. When

King Lear's Reflection of ACT 1 SCENE 1      King Lear is introduced and divides the kingdom into three parts to hide favoritism. Gloucester talks about his son, Edmund, in not such of a good way, but it was meant to be a joke. Just saying that it was too early for Edmund to come into the world. King Lear wants to know which one of his daughters' love him the most. Goneril goes first and is basically saying anything to get what King Lear is offering. Regan does the same thing. So Cordelia is the last one to speak and nothing. Cordelia feels like she does not have to express her love for her father if it is already shown. Lear disowns her and Kent gets involved. Kent is given 5 days to collect anything he needs to survive and on the sixth day, he should be leaving the kingdom.
